Obituary – Robert K. Lehto

Robert K Lehto of Occoquan, VA passed away at his residence on 30 September 2012.  Bob was born in Ishpeming, MI 14 May 1928.  His son Rance, daughter Susan, son Christopher, daughter-in-law Rebecca and their children Stephen, Elizabeth, Catherine, Natalie, and Samantha survive him.  Wife Mildred and son Stephen predeceased him.

Bob graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1946 and joined the the US Navy.  He served as an enlisted man from 1946 to 1954 and from 1954 to 1967 as an active duty officer and pilot for antisubmarine warfare.  He graduated from Ohio State University Summa Cum Laude in 1963, University of Maryland with a Masters in International Relation in 1966.  Retired from the Navy in 1967.  As a civilian, he worked in the Office of the Naval Operations and the Bureau of Naval Personnel from 1967 to 1985 retiring as a member of the Senior Executive Service.  Internment was at Quantico National Cemetery.

Bob was the immediate Past President of The Society of John Gaither Descendants even though not a Gaither descendant, he took great interest in our group and added much to it. He will be missed by all.
